Christmas 2021 Letter

Hope Hello dear friends! I am now the proud grandmother of FOUR! In October I finally got to visit my granddaughter Kairos (and her parents!) in Leeds--and in November I arrived in LA in time for the birth of my new granddaughter Nova. I enjoyed the opportunity to be with my grandson Hudson, now a proud Big Brother. My first grandson Dino is 5 and in school; I have seen him several times over the year--he is such fun! In other news, I’m still working for the National Academies of Sciences, though still from home. Which is FINE by me!
Aaron After having much patience during the unprecedented pandemic of 2020, Aaron made a point of fully enjoying 2021 with numerous trips to Europe to reunite with friends, road trips to Georgia to see family and fish the beaches, and playing in his yard in Annandale, VA. He looks forward to spending a good chunk of 2022 in Europe and more fish caught on the east coast of America.
Arabella I started 2021 exploring California and ended 2021 by moving back there—I got my dream apartment in Nob Hill, San Francisco and look forward to doing all the things the city has to offer! So far I have run the bridge, been to the beach several times, eaten loads of good food and made some very good friends! I am loving it so far!
Beatrice and Dino There are now THREE cats in the house. Jacques and Fred came the normal way but Mac howled at the door until he was let in. All three cats are now loving companions. Dino loves them very much and they love him. He turned 5 this year and is now in kindergarten at PS 11, and doing well! Beatrice and Alec have separated, but are working hard to share the care of their wonderful son.
Nova and Hudson Jacob and Gloria can’t believe that 2021 has come to an end. This year was quite eventful for the Los Angeles Robbins! There were many hikes in the Santa Monica mountain ranges, as well as big trips to Big Bear and Disneyland (a first for Hudson!) We also made it to Maryland for the month of August, just in time for thunderstorm season. The year (and all of our outdoor adventures) came to temporary halt on 11/17 with the arrival of baby Nova, as we plan to spend the holiday season cozying up with her at home.
Joy and Lawrence and Kairos We had a wonderful year despite the pandemic and baby-related lack of sleep. In April we became Civil Partners (kinda like getting married, but different). In July Kairos turned 1. In August we went to Spain for 2 weeks and enjoyed the amazing heat. In September I turned 40 with many lovely little celebrations as Covid allowed--but this coincided with the tragic death of Lawrence's cousin. He was one of the few family members to have met Kairos face to face, a small blessing for us among such sadness. In October we remotely joined the ceremony of my dad's tombstone being placed, one year on from his death; we hope to be able to travel to the States in Spring. But mom could travel here and did, so wonderful for her and Kairos to meet each other! Hope to see you all in 2022. xx
