Funeral Flowers

The 2010 holiday season started with 2 deaths--Aaron's dear friend Maarike was killed by a drunken driver, and then his equally dear friend Zvonko was diagnosed with an agressive brain cancer--died within a couple weeks of diagnosis, leaving a wife and 2 little girls. This double tragedy was very hard to bear, and Aaron was devastated. At least we were all together for Christmas, and were able to give Aaron the comfort of being at home, being with family. We are so very very sorry, and sympathize deeply with Maarike's and Zvonko's families.

Depart, O Christian soul, out of this world;
In the Name of God the Father Almighty who created you;
May your rest be this day in peace,
and your dwelling place in the Paradise of God.

Snow

This Christmas was also the occasion of the Big snow in England, and the Big glaring ineffable cluelessness of Heathrow and British Air in dealing with it. Joy was stuck for a week, while Heathrow and BA bumbled about. When the best BA could offer was a flight getting in late Christmas afternoon, she bought a new ticket, arriving in JFK at 9:30pm on Christmas Eve. Her sister found a driver who picked her up and brought her home to Bethesda from New York in time for Christmas. Blessings on the man!

Despite all the grief and anguish, we managed to find joy in each other's company, and in the festivities of the season. Here are some pictures.

Hands with gifts

Also, just because I worked so hard on it, here is a link to our gift exchange page, which was more honored in the breach than the observance,but was a lot of fun to put together, all the same.

And here is a link to our Christmas 2010 newsletter.

We had a splendid New Year's Celebration in New York, staying in Jacob's splendid apartment, and enjoying a fabulous show at the Met.
